Most people think that when an athlete is hurt, they see a physical therapist (PT) for rehab and training. This is often the case, but if they are looking to run faster, jump higher, or get stronger, an orthopedist (who specializes in the musculoskeletal system) is devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries. While a physical therapist can help recover from and prevent future injury, an orthopedist specialized in sports medicine can help a healthy athlete improve their performance, too.
